Church Notes For Jan. 1

Happy New Year!! You are invited to come join us at the First United Methodist Church, located at the intersection of Highways #54 and #281 in Pratt, Kansas. We extend a special invitation for you to join us for worship and other special activities in the church. Following is a schedule for the week Sunday, January 3-Friday, January 8, 2010.

 

 

Sunday, December 27 is the first Sunday after Christmas. The Early, Informal Worship Service begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall; the Contemporary Worship Service begins at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with the Praise Band/Worship Team leading worship; and the Traditional Worship Service starts at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday School classes meet from 9:05-9:55 a.m. except for the 50/50 Class that meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor Dan Ferguson will be preaching a message entitled, “The Presence” in all three worship services. The Scripture passages will be Isaiah 60:1-7 and Matthew 2:1-12. Jane Biles will be playing the offertory, “What Child is This?” (arr. Phillip Keveren) in the early service. In the traditional service she will be playing “And There Was a Star” (arr. David Paxton). The chancel choir will be singing the introit “Rejoice In the Lord” (John Horman) and the anthem, “A Star Rising In the East” (Pepper Choplin). Phil Lunt will serve as the liturgist in the traditional service.

 

 

 

On Monday January 4, the Monday Morning Moms meet at 9:30 a.m. in the parlor.. The Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday mornings the Quilters meet in the Quilters Room in the basement. The Ladies Bible Study meets each Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. in the conference room. The Faithfully Fit Forever Exercise team will meet on Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

 

 

 

Coming on Wednesdays, January 6, 2010! Financial Peace University – Dave Ramsey video and financial planning workbooks; also, Dr. Kevin Lehman’s Have a New Kid by Friday video series to help parents set boundaries and follow-through.; Scripture Memory group – using Nav Press materials; Serving from the Heart. This class is designed to help you discover your talents and spiritual gifts; and it also helps you implement these into your life and into the life of the church. Judy Rittgers is the facilitator. Connections class is moving forward with a line-up of local speakers of interesting topics and Christian movies in January; Chancel Choir practices each Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the Sanctuary under the leadership of Bob Bitter. Each Wednesday from 6-7 p.m., we offer ministries to children. Our children ministries are age-appropriate, Bible-based stories using Veggie Tales as our media base and filled with fun activities and lots of love: Pre-Veggies (3-5 yrs.), Pri-Veggies (K-2nd grades), and Grapple (3rd -5th grades) . Youth ministries include Jr. High (6-7 p.m.) and Sr. High Youth (7-8 p.m.)

 

 

 

Friday, January 8 Mom’s Day Out meets from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 3 year old nursery in the basement. Their leaders are Glenda Sibley and George Fowler. For more information contact the church office.

Coming in February: Join us for our “Banner of Love!” season of renewal. We will have a banquet and special services! Sunday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, we will celebrate the greatest love of all with our Banner of Love Banquet at 5:30 p.m. and our special services will continue from Sunday-Tuesday evenings, February 14-16 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Dennis Wallace, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita, will be our speaker for special services. Mike & Glenda Mann, ventriloquist and magician extraordinaire, will be the special guests for our banquet and minister to our children, Sunday through Tuesday evenings as well. Festivities for Ash Wednesday begin Wednesday, February 17 at 5:15 p.m. with the service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
