Church Notes For Jan. 15

You are invited to come join us at the First United Methodist Church, located at the intersection of Highways #54 and #281 in Pratt, Kansas. We extend a special invitation for you to join us for worship and other special activities in the church. Following is a schedule for the week Sunday, January 10-Friday, January 15, 2010.

 

 

Sunday, January 17 is the second Sunday after the Epiphany. It is also Human Relations Sunday. A special offering will be taken; and also information for those who want to give to the Haitian relief efforts will be available. The Early, Informal Worship Service begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall; the Contemporary Worship Service begins at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with the Praise Band/Worship Team leading worship; and the Traditional Worship Service starts at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday School classes meet from 9:05-9:55 a.m. except for the 50/50 Class that meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor Dan Ferguson will be preaching a message entitled, “Enticed” in all three worship services. The Scripture passages will be Proverbs 1:8-19 and Romans 2:1-11. Jane Biles will be playing the offertory, “Amazing Grace” (Garrett Parker) in the early service and “As the Hart Pants for You, O Lord” (Richard Blake) in the traditional service. The chancel choir will be singing the introit “Praise the Lord” (Boyd Bacon) and the anthem, “On Eagle’s Wings” (arr. Douglas Wagner). Dorothy Trinkle will serve as the liturgist in the traditional service.

 

 

 

On Monday January 18, our church office will be closed to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. None of our Monday groups will meet at the church that day. Next Monday our regular schedule will resume. These include the following: Monday Morning Moms meet at 9:30 a.m. in the parlor. The Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday mornings the Quilters meet in the Quilters Room in the basemnt. The Ladies Bible Study meets each Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. in the conference room. The Faithfully Fit Forever Exercise team will meet on Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 20 is our Family Night Venue! If you are interested Financial Peace University – we will be hosting the Dave Ramsey video and financial planning series; also, Dr. Kevin Lehman’s Have a New Kid by Fridayvideo series to help parents set boundaries and follow-through. Please contact the church office 672-6473 if you are interested. Serving from the Heart is a new class designed to help you discover your talents and spiritual gifts; and it also helps you implement these into your life and into the life of the church. Judy Rittgers is the facilitator. Connections class is moving forward with a line-up of Christian movies in January; Chancel Choir practices each Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the Sanctuary under the leadership of Bob Bitter. Each Wednesday from 6-7 p.m., we offer ministries to children. Our children ministries are age-appropriate, Bible-based stories using Veggie Tales as our media base and filled with fun activities and lots of love: Pre-Veggies (3-5 yrs.), Pri-Veggies (K-2nd grades), and Grapple (3rd -5th grades) . Youth ministries include Jr. High (6-7 p.m.) and Sr. High Youth (7-8 p.m.). Congregational Life will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. The Rebekah Guild meets at 7:00 p.m. in the home of A. Van Blaricum.

 

 

 

Thursday, January 21 the UMW Guilds meet at the church. 8:00 a.m. Sarah meets in the Parlor. Naomi Guild meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlor and Martha Guild meets at 2:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. Also on Thursday, the contemporary planning team meets at 6:15 p.m. and the praise band practices at 7 p.m. The Stephens Ministry Team will meet at 7:00 p.m. in “The Room Next to the Room, Thursday as well.” Friday, January 22 Mom’s Day Out meets from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 3 year old nursery in the basement. Their leaders are Glenda Sibley and George Fowler.

 

 

 

Pastor Dan Ferguson is offering a membership class on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. for those who are interested in joining our church.

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 all of our Veggie Kids and their families are planning a Winter Fling at the Pratt Roll-A-Rena. More details will be out soon! But, plan to come for a great night of fun!!

 

 

 

Coming in February- Super Bowl Sub Sunday is Sunday, February 7. Order a delicious sub sandwich from one of our youth. This fundraiser helps our youth support their ministry events throughout the year! Also, join us for our “Banner of Love!” season of renewal. We will have a banquet and special services! Sunday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, we will celebrate the greatest love of all with our Banner of Love Banquet at 5:30 p.m. and our special services will continue from Sunday-Tuesday evenings, February 14-16 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Dennis Wallace, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita, will be our speaker for special services. Mike & Glenda Mann, ventriloquist and magician extraordinaire, will be the special guests for our banquet and minister to our children, Sunday through Tuesday evenings as well. Festivities for Ash Wednesday begin Wednesday, February 17 at 5:15 p.m. with the service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Lenten Lunches will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 17 as well.
