Church Notes For Sept. 16
The First United Methodist Church, located at the intersection of Highways #54 and #281 in Pratt, Kansas welcomes you. We encourage you to check out our worship services and other special activities during the week of Sunday, Sept. 18- Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011.
Sunday, September 18 is the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost and Christian Education Sunday. We will recognize our Sunday School teachers and Wednesday ministry team leaders.. The Early, Informal Worship Service begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Sunday School classes meet from 9:05-9:55 a.m. except for the 50/50 Class that meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Contemporary Worship Service begins at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with the Praise Band/Worship Team leading worship. Phil Lunt will be our Liturgist in the Traditional Service. The Traditional Worship Service starts at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Jane Biles & Dorothy Trinkle will be playing a piano duet, For the Beauty of the Earth/Fairest Lord Jesus (Kocker, arr. M. Ham) for the offertory in both the early service and Jane will be playing Lord, Hear Our Prayer, (Lani Smith) in the traditional service. The Chancel Choir will sing Let All the World in Every Sing (McCutcheon) for the Introit and the anthem, Children of Light (Pepper Choplin). The Scriptures for today’s message include Psalm 27 and Luke 11:1-10. Rev. Dan Ferguson will be preaching the sermon “Jesus, Man of Prayer” in all three services, Sunday. Our Monday activities include the Quilters who meet in the basement at 9:30 a.m. The Faithfully Fit Forever Exercise team meets regularly on Mondays and Fridays at 10:00 am and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm during the summer. Tuesday, September 20, the Lay Ministry Team will meet in the Conference Room at 7:00 pm. The Ladies Bible Study group meets at 7 am on Wednesdays.
Fall ministry activities are in full swing! Join us next Wednesday, September 21 with Snack Supper beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Outreach Committee will meet at 5:15 pm in the Conference Room.
God Rocks begins at 5:45 p.m. This exciting new children’s ministry is for kids ages 3-4th grade includes upbeat music, Bible stories, memory Scriptures, crafts, and games- all age appropriate. We have Jr. Hi Youth 5th-8th grades at 6:00 p.m. and Sr. High, 9-12th grade at 7:00 p.m. in the youth room upstairs. Indescribable small group ministry teams will kick off in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. that evening for adults! We will have Home Builders geared for married couples, and a small group from women, men, and those representing our 50/50 class as well! We have something for everyone, including a nursery! Please join us for great fellowship and opportunities for community and spiritual growth. Thursday, September 22 the Contemporary Planning team will meet at 6:15 pm in the Heritage Room. The Nominating Committee will meet in the Heritage Room at 7 pm and the Praise Band will practice at 7 pm in the sanctuary. Friday and Saturday, September 23 & 24 the United Methodist Women of the Kansas West Conference will meet for their annual meeting at our church in Pratt.
Coming Events: Join us at a special Shoe Box Countdown Event for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) on Tuesday, September 27, at 10 am in the Fellowship Hall. Our special guest speaker will be Adam Smith, an OCC International Staff of Samaritan’s Purse Ministries. Wednesday, September 28, Pastor Dan will be hosting a Membership Class from 6-8 pm in the Conference Room.
Are you a golfer? We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual, “Go for the Gold,” Golf Tournament slated for Saturday, October 8 at the Park Hills Country Club. They will be hosting a 4 person scramble, $180 per team with carts extra. Great prizes and grilled hamburgers follow golf.
