Outreach Committee
Mission Statement: We are to help support our church in Christian action.
“Each member of The United Methodist Church is to be a servant of Christ on mission in the local and world wide community.” (The Book of Discipline, p221) We are to help lead our church’s involvement in these social issues.
Essential Leadership Functions:
1. Lead in the Spirit- be a role model
2. Discover Current Reality- “the way things are”
3. Name a Shared Vision- “the way you want things to be”
4. Develop Action Plans- “ build bridges to the future- a way to make your
vision a reality”
5. Monitor the Journey- “keep an eye on how things are going”
Four types of Congregational Involvement
1. Social Service
2. Social Education
3. Social Witness
4. Social Action
Social involvement is identifying the need and then doing something about it. It is Christian love in action. We are to help bring healing and wholeness to a broken world.
Our congregation is an extension of this Outreach committee.
