You are invited to come join us at the First United Methodist Church, located at the intersection of Highways #54 and #281 in Pratt, Kansas. We extend a special invitation for you to join us for worship and other special activities in the church. Following is a schedule for the week Sunday, February 7, 2010.
Sunday, February 7 is the fifth Sunday after the Epiphany. It is also Boy Scout Sunday. The Early, Informal Worship Service begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall; the Contemporary Worship Service begins at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with the Praise Band/Worship Team leading worship; and the Traditional Worship Service starts at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday School classes meet from 9:05-9:55 a.m. except for the 50/50 Class that meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor Dan Ferguson will be preaching a message entitled, “Reserved Seats” in all three worship services. The Scripture passages will be Nehemiah 8:1-12 and Luke 15:11-32. Jane Biles will be playing the offertory, “Joy in God” (Richard Blake) in the early service and “Everlasting Joy” (Lani Smith) in the traditional service. The chancel choir will be singing the introit “Praise the Lord” (Boyd Bacon) and the anthem, “Keep Your Lamps” (Andre Thomas). Judy Rittgers will serve as the liturgist in the traditional service.
This Sunday is Super Bowl Sub Sunday, February 7. Order a delicious sub sandwich from one of our youth. This fundraiser helps our youth support their ministry events throughout the year! There will be no fellowship dinner in February due to our added, special activities.
On Monday February 8, the Monday Morning Moms meet at 9:30 a.m. in the parlor. The Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday mornings the Quilters meet in the Quilters Room in the basement. The Ladies Bible Study meets each Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. in the conference room. The Faithfully Fit Forever Exercise team will meet on Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, February 10 is our Family Night Venue! The United Methodist Men are serving a scrumptious snack supper meal of pancakes and sausage. Our adult classes include Financial Peace University, a Dave Ramsey video series; Serving from the Heart, a class designed to help you discover your talents and spiritual gifts; the Connections class is moving forward with a line-up of Christian movies; Chancel Choir practices each Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the Sanctuary under the leadership of Bob Bitter. Our children ministries are age-appropriate, Bible-based stories using Veggie Tales as our media base and filled with fun activities and lots of love: Pre-Veggies (3-5 yrs.), Pri-Veggies (K-2nd grades), and Grapple (3rd -5th grades) . Youth ministries include Jr. High (6-7 p.m.) and Sr. High Youth (7-8 p.m.). Trustees meet at 8 p.m. in the Heritage Room.
Thursday evening, February 11, the praise band practices at 7 p.m. Friday, February 12, Mom’s Day Out meets from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 3 year old nursery in the basement. Their leaders are Glenda Sibley and George Fowler.
Right around the corner is BLESS “Banner of Love” Extra-Special Services February 14-16, 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, we will celebrate the greatest love of all with our Banner of Love Banquet at 5:30 p.m. and our special services will continue from Sunday-Tuesday evenings. Rev. Dennis Wallace, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita, will be our speaker for special services. Mike & Glenda Mann, ventriloquist and illusionist extraordinaire, will be the special guests for our banquet and minister to our children, Sunday through Tuesday evenings as well. Festivities for Ash Wednesday begin Wednesday, February 17 at 5:15 p.m. with the Lenten Craft Workshop for kids and the Ash Wednesday service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Lenten Lunches will begin at 11:45 a.m. on Ash Wednesday, February 17 in the fellowship hall.
Don’t forget we are sending health kits of purchased items for the people of Haiti. If you’re interested in participating, here are the list of items needed: 1 hand towel (15”x 25” up to 17” x 27”- no kitchen towels), 1 washcloth, 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized), 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers), 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up), 1 toothbrush (single brushed only in original wrapper, no child-sized brushes), and 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages. These are due by Thursday, February 11. We hope to see you in church on Sunday!
