Our Heritage
Methodism in Pratt began in 1884, soon after the Prairie Pioneer homesteaders came rumbling along in their prairie schooners. These devout Methodist Christians had courage and boundless faith—faith in the soil, in themselves and above all in God. Largely a sprout from the church in Iuka, they first worshiped in a public hall.
1884
Methodism in Pratt
When the City of Pratt was founded in 1884, The Pratt Center Town Company donated the lot to the Methodist Church. The first structure was constructed in 1886, but burned to the ground in March 1895.
1895
Rebuilding
Dedicated in April, 1895 the new structure was replaced by another beautiful wooden building. And of course it had another beautiful steeple.
1914
New Construction
The third Pratt Methodist Church Building, an adaption of Colonial architecture, was dedicated in 1914. It served until demolished, in 1966, to make room for the present structure, of Early American design.
1967
Current Structure
Plans moved slowly, but in 1965 the congregation voted to rebuild at the same site. Construction was begun in September of 1966, where we continue to bear witness to our faith in God and Christian compassion. The Spire is a constant witness to God's forgiveness, grace, mercy, and salvation.
